Art San Diego 2012 draws a solid lineup of top galleries and local museums and welcomes over 10,000 art collectors. The 4th Edition of Art San Diego showcased a fresh new concept. Moving to the 60,000-square-feet Balboa Park Activity Center designed by Rob Wellington Quigley opened up an opportunity to explore a more urban theme and also collaborate with leading art institutions in Balboa Park. The opening night welcomed over 2600 collectors and was a social highlight in San Diego – bringing together a diverse audience including numerous artists and leaders who have helped shape the San Diego Art scene for the last sixty years. The Fair featured over 64 galleries with over 1500 pieces of art on display. Post-fair sales surveys reveal the strongest sales yet across galleries, and an increase in the incremental prices of the works sold.

Some exciting changes for 2012:

NEW VENUE. Located in scenic Balboa Park, the 38,000 Balboa Park Activity Center was designed by award-winning architect Rob Wellington Quigley. Beautiful landscaping, public art and spacious outdoor plazas at the north and south end of the building provide excellent sites for the fourth edition of Art San Diego. The Balboa Park Activity Center is conveniently accessible to downtown, major freeways and offers ample free parking. The building is located in walking distance to 26 major museums. Our location allows us to collaborate with many of San Diego’s leading cultural institutions including the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego Museum of Art, The Mingei International Museum, and the Timken Museum – providing cultural exchange and “after-hours” events.

NEW DATES / ADDITIONAL LOAD-IN DAY. We have moved the fair off Labor Day weekend, where it was held the past three years. We received this suggestion from several of our galleries, and many collectors who missed the event because they were traveling. These dates work in conjunction with several other larger cultural happenings that weekend at the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Like last year, the fair will be one of the centerpiece events of Arts Month San Diego, which attracts over 120,000 visitors to San Diego.

NEW THEME. The theme of Art San Diego 2012 is “New Art City” suggesting a new way of expressing the Art Fair. The show layout will include districts, each with its own character, dedicated to the following disciplines: contemporary art, contemporary product and furniture design, mid-century and modern art, and an area designated for experimental works. Each district will have its own social center allowing places to sit and talk with artists and dealers, and experience art in motion.

VIP PROGRAM. This year our location in Balboa Park will give us the opportunity to expand our VIP program in conjunction with our museum member partners in the park. Private tours of top collector’s homes, curated-led tours of museums, artist talks, cocktail receptions and many other exclusive events are planned to enrich the experience for our VIP guests. Our luxury car sponsor will provide complimentary shuttle to and from museums for VIP guests throughout the park.

SPECIAL OFFER. We offer discounted booth rentals and advanced marketing opportunities (a $3,000 incentive package) for return galleries and new galleries who secure their space early. Also in 2012, the Fair will be built with all new 12-foot booth walls.
