Since its inception in 2009, Art San Diego has featured special programs that are informed by the year’s curatorial theme. The programs include site-specific projects, art talks, and panel discussions; a selection of dynamic and cutting-edge film, video, and new media works; and a curated selection of emerging and spotlight artists. These programs provide a dynamic experience for attendees, allowing them to view and interact with works by leading international artists, experience leading museums “outside the museum walls,” and enjoy exhibitions that showcase the thriving art landscape of San Diego.
The theme for Art San Diego 2016 is [THRESHOLD]–standing at the precipice of what’s yet to come. Perched on the brink of something extraordinary, expansive, and ever evolving.
The Spotlight Artist Program gives collectors a focused look at several cutting-edge artists who will each be creating a site-specific solo exhibition. Typically each year the selection of artists have a consistent theme and/or a connection to the show’s Curatorial Theme.
2016 Spotlight Artists will be announced soon.
The San Diego Art Prize is a cash prize with exhibition opportunities at Art San Diego that spotlights established San Diego artists and emerging artists whom they choose to exhibit with and mentor. The San Diego Art Prize is awarded each season to artists whose outstanding achievements in the field of visual arts merit the recognition.
