2017 Show Recap

2017 Show Highlights

The 9th annual Art San Diego wrapped up October 1 and was an amazing show in our new location! The well-attended show featured nearly 70 exhibitors from around the globe, and garnered a crowd of 5,000 art collectors and art lovers for its Opening Night Preview Party. Here are some wonderful testimonials from this year’s show to check out. Now let’s take a look at some of the top sales, award winners and show highlights of this exceptional event!

If there were any questions about if Art San Diego could still be Art San Diego at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, they were put to rest this past weekend. Annual visitors, as well as new fans, joined us in our new location on our new dates. With the ocean in the background, a red carpet underfoot, and rainbow-colored ribbons streaming everywhere you looked, the Wyland Center was a visual feast—and we hadn’t even stepped inside yet.

Inside, the 30,000-square-foot exhibition space had been transformed into a beautiful gallery-style venue displaying extraordinary works of innovation and genius from up-and-coming and established creatives alike.

Whether you were there and want to relive the highlights with us or you couldn’t make it this year and want to get excited about next year’s show, read on for a recap of Art San Diego 2017.

[FUSION] – September 20 – October 1, 2017

Art San Diego 2017’s curatorial theme, which informed the show’s special programming, was [FUSION]: the merging of artistic mediums, of exhibitors and collectors, and of the countless galleries and artists who come together to showcase their work. It informs each of our special installations, talks, and events.

Show Programming & Highlights

More than 10,500 art lovers made their way through Sarah Stieber and Theresa Finch’s 50-foot-long ribbon-wrapped and into the Wyland Center to enjoy an impressive collection of contemporary art from over 65 international galleries and studio artists.

Anita Lewis of Art for Modern Life inspired peacefulness with her ocean- and water-themed work. Margaret Lipsey of MJ Laberge Gallery pushed us to search for the light within her darkness of her abstract art. Puerto Rican artist Villín Ramos wowed us with the geometric abstractions and vibrant colors in his latest series of works, which were saved by Arte Collective before Hurricane Maria devastated his hometown.

San Diego Art Prize winner Rizzhel Javier mesmerized the audience with a live sewing demonstration. Mexican multidisciplinary artist Roberto Georgge, represented by World Wide Art, donated all the earnings from his sales at to pay tribute to the victims of the earthquake and support relief efforts in Mexico. As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the mayor of San Diego, Kevin L. Faulconer proclaimed Sept. 28, 2017, to be Alejandro Salazar Day,” in honor of the world-renowned Latino artist and international art dealer Alexander Salazar.

Art San Diego 2017 really was a {FUSION] of artistic mediums, of exhibitors and collectors, and of the countless galleries and artists who came together to showcase their work.
