Art San Diego 2016: Off to a Swinging Start

 In ASD16, Education, Show Recap

From evocative installations to a sunset soiree, Art San Diego’s opening night events on Thursday evening had all the makings of a successful art show launch. Now in its eighth year, ASD is a highly anticipated annual event that takes place at the Activity Center of the gorgeous Balboa Park. Over 60 exhibiting galleries gathered this year to showcase the work of hundreds of leading contemporary artists around the world—let’s take a peek at some of the highlights!

First off was the First Preview, an invitation-only event for ASD’s Collector Club members and UBS Financial Services, our presenting sponsor. The cocktails and conversation flowed, and the crowds were there to enjoy the unveiling of two Art Lab installations and live music from Third Coast Jazz while picking their favorite works of art to take home to their personal collections.

The party continued later into the evening, as the doors opened for the Opening Night Preview. Music, hors d’oeuvres, Louis Jadot wines, and a first look at all the incredible art on display made for an impeccable evening. Exhibitors such as James Paterson, Sergott Contemporary Art Alliance, and others boasted several sales throughout the night. It was a grand start! You can see the full weekend schedule here.
